Working:
National Parks, natural reserves and protected areas form more than a quarter of Costa Ricas expanse. With your work you can help protect and conserve this natural heritage!
Your main tasks will be improving the trails(for example building new steps), helping out at the front desk (informing tourists about the trail and environmental matters), cleaning the beach and the trails from the garbage tourists may have left, or going on patrol to check if everything is as it should be.
There is always countless other tasks, like working in the office on the computers, preparing material for the environmental education programs of the park, or just helping the staff with the varied incoming work.
If you have an idea of a project you would like to undertake in the park you're always welcome to suggest it!
You will have five to six work days a week and one or two days off(depending on the duration of your stay). Daily work starts at eight and the finish time will vary depending on the amount of work.
With your work you will be helping to keep the infrastructure of the park working, in order to ensure the natural diversity keeps on growing so that we can continue to enjoy its beauty!
San Miguel:
San Miguel is a biological research station located at the western side of the park. It's completely closed to tourists. We regularly send volunteers to San Miguel, to help the local ranger with on going projects or just to take care of the station and the laboratories.
As it's closed to tourists, our volunteers get the very rare opportunity to enjoy San Miguel and see some of the nicest beaches, the most awe-inspiring sundowns and the most pristine scenerys of Costa Rica.
Accomodation:
During your time in the park you will stay in our volunteer house, which is located two minutes walk away from the main building, directly over looking the coast. The volunteer house provides three closed showers and two WCs, shared bedrooms, hammocks, a washing area and a community area.
